IBM and SAP - the best combination

January 27th, 2007

The customer described in the attached brochure is here in Western Michigan. The IBM team worked with Arbor Solutions to sell Perrigo a pair of System i model 570s which we are currently installing. For many applications partition on the 570s are replacing wintel servers for SAP applications. The remaining pieces of SAP that run on Wintel are being migrated to iSCSI attached System x servers.

I work with the SAP basis team at Perrigo.

The Toronto IBM LGR team presented their enthusiasm for System i at the annual Employee’s Charitable Foundation event. They have been kind enough to let us see their effort - in living color and full motion video!

“Because I have i, I’m not gonna lie, I have ROI!”

Letterman on Bill

August 13th, 2006

We love our Chairman Bill, and since he is stepping down soon, he is being lampooned in many places.

Here is one, found on YouTube, from Letterman…

While not exactly System i, it speaks to how well the competition is.. er.. respected!

Italian iSeries?

August 6th, 2006

At the first annual iSeries Initiative for Innovation, the entertainment included an interesting song. Someone secretly recorded it, and it is presented here for your listening pleasure:

O iSeries Mio (click to hear the song)

After this recording had seen the light of day, an enterprising group from Germany added video to the soundtrack. You can see that effort here:

Downtime, sametown, I always get them mixed up.

July 30th, 2006

Occasionally, you hear a song that gets stuck in your head, and you sing it all day. Even better, when it is a parody, you can smile every time you sing it.

This one is an attempt to describe a ‘productivity’ tool…

Sametime (click to hear the song)
When you’re alone and work is making you lonely
You can just install
Sametime
If you’ve got problems you can schedule a meeting
To attend online
Sametime

You can view the names of the participants and meetings
View the application sharing – hey, it’s really neat –
How can you lose?

Sametime Connect is so cool
If your co-workers are online, they’ll respond back to you

’Cos it’s Sametime
Try it and have some fun
Sametime
You won’t be the only one
Sametime
It’s out there waiting for you

Sametime
Sametime
Sametime
Sametime

You can download and install the package on your own PC
Sametime

You know it’s so easy
Sametime
Share your applications with the folks in other cities
Join a new discussion group
Get down to nitty-gritty
How can you lose?
Start up a chat with your friends
You’ll get their messages instantly
The buzz never ends
’Cos it’s Sametime
Try it and have some fun
Sametime
You won’t be the only one
Sametime

Like a net, isn’t a grid full of holes?

July 20th, 2006

There are a few companies who claim they are as good as the technology that has existed in the System i family for many years. This is always good for a laugh.

Often, it is about 64 bit computing. Sometimes it is about reliability. This year, we find this new attempt:

Oracle Grid Computing
Runs faster. Costs less. And never breaks.
For over 40 years, the mainframe has been the leader in computer performance and reliability. But now there’s the Oracle Grid, a group of low-cost servers connected by Oracle software. Runs applications faster than the fastest mainframe. If a server fails, the mainframe stops while the grid just keeps running. The Oracle Grid. Runs faster, costs less and never breaks.

And now for your enjoyment, a comparison of what was and what should be.
First, turn your sound up to a decent level (this is safe for your office).
